MARIN CLEAN ENERGY: YOU CHOOSE!
25% OR 100% RENEWABLE
ENERGY DELIVERED TO YOUR HOUSE THIS YEAR!
If you are in the towns of Mill Valley, Tiburon, Sausalito,
Marin City, San Rafael, San Anselmo, Greenbrae
Fairfax or another qualifying area of the County of Marin, you have two renewable energy
options to choose from.
- 100% "Deep Green": When you actively enroll in this option, PG&E will deliver Marin Clean Energy's 100% renewable energy supply to your home. This delivery service is scheduled to begin in May of 2010. The cost of this energy option is
available for about $10 extra per month for residential accounts and $15 per month for business accounts. This fee will go down over time. Sunrise Center is gifting $180 in class credits to anyone who enrolls in the Deep Green Option.

- 25% and rising "Light Green": Unless you choose to opt-out of Marin Clean Energy, you will
become a “Light Green” customer,
giving you 25% renewable energy at the same
price you are currently paying. The “Light Green” option will raise the bar to 50% renewable energy at prices that drop below PG&E’s offerings over the next 5 years, and is scheduled to be at 100% renewable energy by 2020 with a high likelyhood of reaching this goal much sooner.
If you do not opt-out you will automatically become
a customer of MCE at no additional cost. You will still have the option of opting out and returning to PG&E's 14% renewable energy offerings at anytime for a $5 fee.
When choosing either of these options, you can feel good about knowing that by being a customer of MCE, the money you pay for the MCE portion of your PG&E bill (the "generation" fees) will stay in our community, reducing our deficit, creating local jobs and supporting important community operations. PG&E will continue to deliver your energy and service your powerlines and they will continue to bill you for these essential services. In accordance with PG&E is required by law (AB 117) to fulfill this obligation in partnership with a Community Choice Aggregate such as MCE.
The Light Green Option will be cancelled if
PG&E’s Proposition 16 passes on June 8th.
You will be receiving information from both PG&E and
from Marin Clean Energy (MCE) letting you know how you can opt-out of the
Marin’s Clean Energy plan and stay with PG&E. PG&E will provides
you only 14% renewable energy at prices that are scheduled to increase by 30%
over the next 3 years and will predictably continue to increase. Choosing PG&E's energy supply gives PG&E additional financial support that will help them to go ahead with their plans to build more nuclear power plants in our state. You will still have the choice to switch to Marin Clean Energy, but PG&E will charge you a minimum of $15 to do so.
